The Art of Healing Counseling, PLLC offers a variety of counseling services with adults and adolescents (13+) including individual art therapy, group therapy and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.
Our first appointment will be mainly focused on getting to know you, your unique needs, and starting to create a collaborative plan for our work together. We’ll also go over all of the policies, expectations and fees and make sure all of your questions about working together can be answered.
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the use of art-making in a therapeutic session. The act of art-making in itself can be therapeutic as well as provide opportunities to explore thoughts and emotions, creative expression, and provide space for introspection. Art-making can enhance the therapeutic session by accessing thoughts and ideas that are difficult to put into words or are unknown to the individual.
Art Therapy is more about the process of communicating and expressing in a creative way, and much less about the art product. So, the art in Art Therapy is really only used as a means of communication and expression, AND, since there is no wrong way to express oneself or communicate, then there is no wrong way to make art.
Art therapy sessions can involve a variety of creative and expressive activities, such as drawing, painting, collaging, doll making, poetry, and more. At times Art Therapy can be fun and relaxing, and at other times it may stir up painful emotions...in either case the emotional expression is normal/healthy/beneficial as important part of the healing experience as we move toward physical, mental, and emotional wellness Add a description about this item
No! Art therapy is beneficial to anyone and everyone and no prior knowledge or experience as an artist is necessary.
Certain topics or stories can be difficult to share, and that’s normal and OK. You don’t have to share anything you don’t want to, or that makes you uncomfortable. It’s important to build a trusting relationship between therapist and client, but our sessions always progress at a pace that you feel ready for.
A counseling session with The Art of Healing Counseling typically lasts for 50 minutes, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences.
